which 10 countries qualified for the second semi-final?

Sixteen of the 32 countries still competing for Eurovision 2024 performed this Thursday, May 9, during the second semi-final. Ten of them qualified.

The second round of eliminations for Eurovision 2024 took place this Thursday, May 9. From 9 p.m., 16 of the 32 countries still competing faced each other on the stage of the Malmö Arena, in Malmö (Sweden), for the second semi-final of this 68th edition.

Ten of them qualified at the end of this evening. They will therefore be one of the 26 countries which will perform during the grand final this Saturday, May 11. Here is the list of winners of this second semi-final: Latvia, Austria, Netherlands, Norway, Israel, Greece, Estonia, Switzerland, Georgia and Armenia.

They are added to the ten countries selected Tuesday evening, during the first semi-final: Serbia, Portugal, Slovenia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Finland, Cyprus, Croatia, Ireland and Luxembourg.

Next up: the grand finale

To the 20 countries qualified during these two pre-evenings are added the six automatically qualified: the five members of the Big Five (the largest financial contributors, including France) and Sweden, in its capacity as winner of the last year with the song Tattoo by Loreen.

They also performed during the two semi-finals, three per evening: the German, Swedish and British candidates delivered their performances on Tuesday and the French, Italian and Spanish artists performed their pieces this Thursday.

As desired the rule, voting for each semi-final was open to spectators from the countries performing there. The pre-qualified countries were in the same boat; thus, French spectators were not able to vote on Tuesday but they were able to participate in the vote this Thursday.

On three evenings, voting for one’s own country is prohibited. To vote, spectators can go to the site www.esc.vote, download the official Eurovision application or proceed by telephone or SMS. The number to contact is displayed on the screen during each of the three evenings.

Since last year, countries that do not take part in the competition can participate in the vote; their voices are brought together in the same category, called “The rest of the world“, which counts as an additional country.

The outcome of the semi-finals is determined only by spectator voting. It is only on the evening of the final that a jury of experts from each participating country will enter the equation, and will count for 50% of the points awarded by each country.
