WhatsApp will soon allow direct reaction to messages with all emojis

WhatsApp will soon roll out a new feature that will allow you to respond to messages directly with any emoji. So far, only six fixed emojis were available for this. This works out from a Facebook post by Meta boss Mark Zuckerbergwho also shared his favorite message reaction emojis.

WhatsApp only introduced the ability to respond to messages with emojis in May 2022. Now this option is to be expanded significantly. Instead of the previous thumbs up, heart, tears of laughter, surprise, sadness and praying hands (thank you), all emojis can then be used as a reaction. WhatsApp is thus responding to requests from users who wanted such a function, as a video on Twitter shows.

The function is already present in the beta versions of WhatsApp on Android and iOS, writes the US tech magazine The Verge. The extended emoji reaction function is now to be rolled out to all users step by step. That will happen “in the coming weeks”. WhatsApp also did not give an exact time when the function will be available in Germany.

The advanced emoji reaction will probably be just as accessible as before. Currently, all you have to do in WhatsApp is click on an incoming message in a chat and select one of the available emojis from the context menu that pops up.
