The high temperatures made water a very popular element. Whether it’s a rain shower during the “Schlagermove”, a bathtub regatta or the next fountain – places by the water made the heat more bearable.

Hot weather for “Schlagermove”, “Rave The Planet”, Cologne’s Christopher Street Day and a number of other open-air events: With temperatures often well above 30 degrees, it was possible to celebrate well into the night at the weekend. However, the heat was for many also a challenge: the circulatory system no longer played along with many an event guest. The fire brigade in Berlin, where the techno parade “Rave The Planet” took place on Saturday with around 200,000 participants, reported a significantly increased number of operations due to the heat.

For children, the weekend meant untroubled bathing fun in many places. The crowds romped around in outdoor pools and at lakes, places by the water were in great demand everywhere. In Pokrent in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the bathtub regatta was celebrated on the village pond. Day trippers were drawn to watercourses and fountains, countless stand-up paddlers were out and about, and bathers on the North and Baltic Seas enjoyed a day by the sea. “The place is full, the beach is full, the parking lots are full,” said a spokeswoman for Tourist Information Boltenhagen on Sunday. Many beach chair rentals on the Baltic Sea were fully booked.

At the “Schlagermove” in Hamburg with around 400,000 revelers, the fire brigade set up a cooling drizzle on Saturday. In Cologne, the Christopher Street Day parade moved through the city center on Sunday in the scorching heat. Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) called on the demo to take care of each other in the hot and humid weather. Participants and spectators should drink enough and stay in the shade as much as possible.

Drought increases the risk of forest fires

According to provisional data from the German Weather Service (DWD), it was up to 37 degrees on Sunday in Neckarwestheim near Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg.

Because of the drought, the DWD indicates the risk of forest fires in large parts of Germany as high. In some regions, for example in Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and North Rhine-Westphalia, there were small fires in fields and in the forest. The cause of the field fires were multiple technical defects in agricultural equipment. In many areas of Germany, the grain harvest is currently in full swing.

After the risk of severe weather on Sunday, the beginning of the week promises only a little cooling. According to the DWD, maximum values between 29 and 33 degrees are reached. Thunderstorms and showers are still possible on Monday, which are slowly moving towards the east. From Wednesday it will continue with moderate summer weather, it was said on Sunday.
