Flood waters on the Rhine are slowly receding

The water levels on the Rhine will slowly fall again: the flood has reached its peak.

The flood caused by rain and thaw The Rhine has reached its peak in many places. The water level in Mannheim reached its highest level (7.38 meters) on Friday afternoon, as the flood forecast center of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for the Environment announced. In Koblenz the flood peak (6.02 meters) was also exceeded on Saturday night. The highest levels (6.00 meters) were expected for Saturday afternoon in Mainz and Kaub. Water levels are expected to fall everywhere by the middle of the week.

At the Maxau gauge, a drop below the reporting height of seven meters is expected at the beginning of next week. The Rhine is still closed to shipping near Maxau and Speyer. From Mannheim to Cologne, ships still have to travel at a slower speed and, if possible, in the middle of the river.
