Warning strike at BER: All flights are expected to be canceled on Wednesday

Flight operations at BER will probably come to a standstill on Wednesday: the Verdi union has called on the majority of employees to go on a all-day warning strike. According to Verdi, the background to this is the collective bargaining that has so far been unsuccessful.

Due to a warning strike, no passenger flights are expected to take off or land at the capital’s Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) on Wednesday. “In this situation, the airport company must assume that no regular passenger flights can take place at BER on that day and with this in mind has also informed all partners at the airport about the announced warning strike,” the airport company announced on Monday.

Verdi had previously announced a warning strike in ground handling services, the airport company and aviation security. Collective bargaining so far has been unsuccessful. The workers in these areas are therefore called to go on strike on Wednesday from 3:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

At 10 a.m. there will be a rally on Willy-Brandt-Platz in front of the airport building. Verdi expects 1,500 participants.

For employees on the ground and in the airport company, the union is demanding 500 euros more per month for a period of one year. Employers, on the other hand, want a term of three years.

For aviation security employees, Verdi is calling for better regulation of the surcharges for overtime and for night, public holiday and Sunday work.
