VW throttles production in Zwickau and Dresden – economy

Volkswagen is reducing the production of electric cars at its Zwickau and Dresden locations for two weeks. A production line in Zwickau will be shut down during the autumn holidays, said a spokesman at the request of the German Press Agency. The reason for the move is weakening demand.

Production of the ID.4, ID.5, Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron models will continue in three shifts, it said. Production of the ID.3 will also be suspended for two weeks at the Transparent Factory in Dresden. While production will resume in regular single-shift operation in Dresden from October 16th, what will happen next in Zwickau is unclear. It was said that there were discussions with the works council about the further driving style there. The company did not want to comment on Wednesday on how exactly the whole thing affects unit numbers and how many employees are affected.
