Follow his interview live.

He has his eyes set on June 9. Head of the National Rally list in the European elections, Jordan Bardella launched his party’s campaign this Sunday during a meeting organized in Marseille, in the presence of Marine Le Pen. “There is no other option than victory”he declared, ensuring that polling day must be “day 1 of the alternation” facing “large eraser” Emmanuel Macron.

I assume: it’s France first and Europe then”

Jordan Bardella at 8 p.m.

“I assume: it’s France first and Europe then”, he replied in 20H this Monday March 4 to Julien Arnaud who questioned him about the absence of the European flag on stage with him the day before. Jordan Bardella says he wants “change the rules of the game” in Brussels, “but without destroying anything.” His credo? “Economic patriotism”whether it affects the daily lives of farmers or the contents of plates in children’s canteens.

On the question of Ukraine, he recalled the red lines that his party does not wish to cross. He thus opposes the sending of ground troops but also the accession of the country led by Volodymy Zelensky to the European Union. An option that “would weaken European economies and French agriculture” according to him.

SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE

While the National Assembly must vote on France’s support for Ukraine, the RN has a red line, “Ukraine’s entry and membership in the European Union”. Jordan Bardella opposes “any form of enlargement” which “would weaken European economies and French agriculture”, calling for caution on this subject.

ON RUSSIA’S AGGRESSIVENESS

“We were the first to condemn Russia’s violation of Ukraine’s territorial sovereignty,” recalls Jordan Bardella. “Russia contests French interests (…). Be careful not to cross a red line,” he said, referring to Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to send ground troops to Ukraine.

NAVALNY

Jordan Bardella did not vote to denounce the conditions of detention of Russian opponent Alexei Navalny, who died last week in Russia. Does he regret? “The European Union has been trying for years to monopolize skills that are not its own,” he defends. “Diplomacy, defense, armies must remain a prerogative of the nation state and member states,” he says. “Now it is clear that Russia has responsibility for the death of Alexei Navalny,” he admits, speaking of “inadmissible conditions of detention.”

HIS VISION OF EUROPE

Jordan Bardella says he wants to “change the rules of the game”, “change everything without destroying anything”. To denounce “the harmful consequences” on France of the policies decided in Brussels, he takes as an example “the green pact which advocates agricultural decline with ever more drastic standards”. A measure that he says he has been “fighting for five years”. He also mentions the free trade agreements with South American countries and New Zealand that farmers denounced during their protest movement. “In particular, we want economic patriotism so that in French canteens, we can eat French meat. Today, the European Union forbids us from doing so,” he assures.

MEETING IN MARSEILLE

There was no European flag behind him on stage the day before. But Jordan Bardella replies “not at all” when Julien Arnaud asks him if this is a sign that he wants to get rid of Europe. “I saw this controversy, I find it ridiculous,” he said. “The big tragedy” today is “not loving enough” the tricolor flag, according to him. “I assume: it’s France first and Europe then.”

BARDELLA ON IVG

Marine Le Pen is one of the 780 parliamentarians to have voted in favor of including abortion in the Constitution. “A majority of the National Rally group” voted in favor, recalls Jordan Bardella, noting that “no major political movement” in France calls into question the right to abortion. “We must refuse that a single woman in France could one day worry about seeing one of her rights going backwards,” he said. He wants the State to commit to women’s safety and their access to care.
