Four days after the death of his son, Zakaria, at the age of 15, his father, Driss Tabti, expressed his pain to TF1. “Zakaria was a funny, dynamic man. He worked, he liked to work. When we got up in the morning, he always came to give kisses. That’s what will stay in my memory”he hopes, his voice breaking with emotion.

It is justice that will do its job. She has to be strict, she has to hit hard

Driss Tabti, father of Zakaria

The young, uneventful man lived with his family in the La Monnaie district of Romans-sur-Isère. This Tuesday, April 9, shortly after 10 p.m., he intervened during a fight, in a passage, 200 meters from his home. Zakaria is then stabbed and succumbs to his injuries an hour later. His father is still struggling to realize. “You find your son on the ground like that… With a guy of thirty years old, or I don’t know how many, who sticks a knife into him like that… It’s too difficult. I can’t believe it”he confides.

Four suspects, all from the same family, were indicted and placed in pre-trial detention this Friday, April 12. The eldest son, aged 26, suspected of having carried out the fatal stabbing, was indicted for “aggravated murder (…) and willful violence with premeditation in a meeting against a minor aged 15”. “I am happy because the police quickly caught the accused”reacts Driss Tabti, hoping for a strong sanction. “Afterwards, justice will do its job. It must be severe, it must hit hard.”

They are united behind me”, underlines the father. A gathering is planned for this Sunday, April 14, in Romans-sur-Isère, to pay tribute to the young man.
