STORY: Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has apparently been arrested on suspicion of misusing EU funds. According to the Bulgarian Ministry of the Interior, the arrest was made late Thursday evening in connection with the investigations by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). Borisov has not been charged for the time being. The police searched his house. He was taken to National Police Headquarters, where he will likely be held for 24 hours, his lawyer Menko Menkow said. Three other members of Borisov’s centre-right GERB party were also reportedly arrested, including former Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov. The EPPO, headed by Romania’s former chief anti-corruption prosecutor Laura Kovesi, focuses on serious fraud cases related to the misuse of EU funds.
