US tariffs against China: election campaign stings climate protection – economy

The USA is intensifying the trade war with China. President Joe Biden is imposing high tariffs on Chinese-made electric cars, solar panels and semiconductors. He is raising the tariffs on Chinese electric cars from 25 to 100 percent, i.e. four times as much. For semiconductors and solar panels, the taxes rise to 50 percent. 25 percent will soon be due for steel, aluminum and other goods. Biden wants to protect American industry from dumping prices from China, he says.

Fabian Fellmann, US correspondent for the SZ, says that the tariffs also have a completely different reason: It’s an election campaign and Biden expects the decision to get votes in crucial states.

Further news: Verdict against Höcke, dispute between Pistorius and Scholz, attack on Fico.
