Young Valentin was presented this afternoon before the Grenoble investigating judge, who indicted him for murder. According to the Grenoble public prosecutor, Éric Vaillant, the suspect “again admitted the facts before the judge, as he had done before the gendarmes, including the premeditation of his action”. He has just been placed in pre-trial detention by the liberty and detention judge and incarcerated in a juvenile section of a detention center.
Born in 2008 and the youngest son of a family of four described as “normal, uneventful” and very well integrated into his village, Valentin was arrested on Saturday in Montpellier. He disappeared after the fire in his house in Châteauvilain. In the rubble, two bodies “almost completely charred” and “bearing gunshot wounds” were found. “Presumably those of the parents,” according to investigators.
The investigating judge will order a psychiatric assessment and a psychological assessment to better understand Valentin’s personality and assess his criminal responsibility.
