In the city of North Bend, Washington, four zebras escaped – and caused chaos on a highway. Three of the animals were captured. Where the fourth animal is is still completely unclear.
Police in Washington state have captured three escaped zebras. The whereabouts of a fourth zebra are unclear, as police spokesman Rick Johnson told the German Press Agency on Monday. Several US media outlets had previously reported on the unusual escapees. Accordingly, the animals had already escaped near a highway near Seattle on Sunday afternoon (local time). The owner – a private individual – was on his way to the state of Montana, a little further east, and had stopped to secure the van.
Police spokesman Johnson documented the events on X, formerly Twitter. “This is a first for me and everyone involved,” he wrote there. “Crazy!!” With the help of local residents, three of the animals were initially captured. A video posted on Facebook shows one of the zebras apparently roaming through the garden of a residential building while a woman talks to it and tries to attract it. “I can now put professional zebra driver on my resume,” the video caption says.
