Fake identity papers
According to US information, North Korean Jon Jin Yong, who is now subject to sanctions, headed a team of IT employees from his homeland in Russia and obtained identity papers for them with the help of Russians. Some of these documents came from relatives or employees of the Russian Sergei Kozlow, against whom punitive measures have now been imposed.
The US Treasury Department also sanctioned Intellekt, a Moscow-registered company owned or controlled by Koslow. The company is also linked to a construction project in the Russian capital that is being coordinated by North Korean Jon.
Among other things, all property located in the United States or under the control of US persons will be blocked, the ministry said. Companies and people doing business with them would also be sanctioned.
Several failed satellite launches
The latest US sanctions were decided in consultation with the governments of South Korea and Japan. In the past few months, North Korea has failed twice in an attempt to put a spy satellite into orbit. The competent authority announced a third attempt for October. UN Security Council resolutions ban North Korea from any launch using ballistic technologies.
