Two injured after grenade attack in Aubervilliers

The guns have once again spoken in Seine-Saint-Denis. Two people were injured, one seriously, Thursday evening in Aubervilliers, by the explosion of a grenade thrown by the driver of a scooter, learns 20 minutes from consistent sources. The events took place around 8:30 p.m., at the corner of rue du Moutier and rue Heurtault. Alerted by the noise, a resident saw through the window of her apartment the two victims who were on the ground. Both were taken care of by firefighters.

One is a 40-year-old man who was riding his bike and who was seriously injured in the right arm and face. Hospitalized in Paris at Pitié-Salpêtrière (13th arrondissement), he was operated on during the night. His state of health did not allow the police to hear him. The other is a 51-year-old woman who suffered a broken finger. She was transported to Avicenne hospital in Bobigny.

M52 type defensive grenade

The two victims were passing in the street when a man driving a TMax threw this “Yugoslav M52 defensive grenade”, said the Bobigny public prosecutor, Eric Mathais, in a press release. A security perimeter was set up by the police, who carried out the first observations. A bomb squad also visited the scene. “The explosion caused damage in particular to two vehicles parked nearby and to the facade and inside of a restaurant,” the magistrate also said.

An investigation was opened for “attempted murder” and “possession of a category A weapon”. The investigations were entrusted to the departmental judicial police service of Seine-Saint-Denis. At this point, the perpetrator is still at large.

A previous attack in Bobigny

This is not the first time a grenade has been used in this department. On May 5, a commando opened fire in the town of Chemin-Vert, in Bobigny, with automatic weapons. The criminals also threw an explosive device near a deal point. They fled before the police arrived. No injuries were discovered. An investigation was opened by the public prosecutor’s office, entrusted to the territorial security of Seine-Saint-Denis.
