US artist Sarah Morris in the Hamburg Deichtorhallen – culture

Alexander Kluge says: Society is abstract, art is concrete. He says so in a film by American artist Sarah Morris, for whom the opposite is true. Her art, at least the painted one, is strictly abstract. The society that she observes with the camera in epic films, on the other hand, seems very concrete. In this half of her work, Morris shows powerful portraits of cities like Beijing, Los Angeles or Abu Dhabi, in which classes, authorities and elites are clearly identified by their clothing: Chinese uniforms during the 2008 Olympics, gala dresses at the Oscars, long white kaduras ruling class in the Emirates.
