On the sidelines of a vigil in solidarity for Israel, a man in Bamberg defiled an Israeli flag and threw it into a trash can. As a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday, the previously unknown man took the flag, which was covered in roses and lying on the ground, and used it to clean his shoes. He then allegedly threw the flag into a trash can. When participants at the gathering on Sunday evening asked the man to return the flag, he reportedly gave them the middle finger. He walked away unrecognized.
The police are investigating suspicions of incitement to hatred as well as damage to property and insults. The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the end of a vigil marking the devastating attack on Israel by Palestinian Hamas terrorists.
