Unexploded bombs in Osnabrück: Fire brigade and police set up barriers | NDR.de – News – Lower Saxony

After an unexploded bomb was found in Osnabrück on Monday, specialists want to defuse the World War II bomb today. Around 2,600 residents have to leave their houses and apartments because of this.

According to the police, those affected had until 9 a.m. to do this. Emergency services are now checking whether all residents are safe. An emergency team set up external barriers to completely cordon off the area. The area around the branch canal in the Hafen district is affected. There are around 650 houses there. In its live ticker, the city of Osnabrück appealed to people to leave the area on time and not to defy the evacuation order under any circumstances.

City switches on citizen telephone and transport hotline

According to the city, an evacuation center will be set up in the Piesberger Gesellschaftshaus. It will be available as a lounge area from 8 a.m. until the evacuation order is lifted. Bomb is to be recovered from the water

Traffic will be partially rerouted

Bramscher Straße and Hansastraße as well as Pagenstecherstraße remain accessible. Long-distance traffic also affected due to bomb defusal

Train traffic is also affected. For example, Deutsche Bahn writes on its homepage that there will be disruptions to long-distance traffic from 12 p.m. All IC trains on the section between Osnabrück and Rheine are affected. Passengers should find out about their connections before traveling.
