Ukraine war news: Kharkiv under fire

+++ 9.30 a.m.: Russian forces shelled the city of Kharkiv again in the morning. This was announced by Mayor Ihor Terekhov in the Messenger service Telegram. According to him, the attack on three districts of the second largest Ukrainian city began at 05:44. A home was damaged and one person injured.

According to British intelligence, Kharkiv has been the country’s most shelled country since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russian forces are “probably trying to force Ukraine to keep significant forces on this front to prevent them from being used as a counterattack force elsewhere.”

Update from Friday, August 19, 9:20 a.m.: The Ukraine war is going differently than expected for Russia. Now it even seems that the Russian advance has been halted. In any case, the US think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Russian troops had not made any territorial gains in Ukraine for the first time since July 6.

Ukraine War News: Drones shot down over Crimea

First report from Friday, August 19: Kyiv – It is the 177th day of the Ukraine war. On the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia, Russian anti-aircraft defenses shot down drones in two strategically important locations. Local governor Mikhail Rasvozhayev said that on August 18 there was a defense operation at Crimea’s largest military airfield, Belbek near Sevastopol. Explosions and anti-aircraft defenses were also said to have been heard over the city of Kerch. A drone was also allegedly shot down there. In the Russian region of Belgorod, an ammunition depot caught fire near the border with Ukraine.
