DAccording to official information, Russian air defense repelled a total of four Ukrainian drone attacks over the Kursk region near the Ukrainian border late on Monday evening. Two drones were destroyed around 10:30 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. CEST), two more about half an hour later, the Russian Defense Ministry in Moscow announced on Telegram on Tuesday night. The information could not be independently verified.

The regional capital Kursk had already been attacked with drones on Sunday. One is said to have hit the building of the Russian domestic secret service FSB, and a second an oil refinery, as media in Kiev reported, citing the Ukrainian military intelligence service. The Kursk region officially announced that a drone caused minor damage to the roof of an administrative building.

Moscow has repeatedly reported Ukrainian drone attacks in recent weeks. However, these are disproportionate to Russia’s mass attacks in its 19-month-long war of aggression against its neighboring country.

Two people were injured in renewed Russian drone attacks in the Odessa region, not far from the border with EU country Romania. “There were attacks on the port infrastructure in Izmail County,” Odessa military governor Oleh Kiper said after the overnight attacks. The injured were truck drivers. One was treated on site, the second had to be taken to hospital because of a serious hand injury. According to Kiper, warehouses and almost 30 trucks were damaged. Six wagons were completely burned out.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported in the morning that a total of 38 kamikaze drones were launched by Russia towards Ukraine during the night from the Crimean peninsula, which has been occupied since 2014. 26 of them were shot down.

02:35 a.m. – Special forces killed Russian Black Sea Fleet admiral

Ukrainian special forces say they killed Russian Black Sea Fleet Admiral Viktor Sokolov in a missile attack on the fleet’s headquarters in Sevastopol last week. “In the attack on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, 34 officers died, including the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Another 105 occupiers were wounded.

12:03 a.m. – Zelensky after receiving Abrams: Working on further military aid

After handing over the first US Abrams tanks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj expressed confidence that he would receive further long-desired military aid. “We are also working on getting all the other military capabilities we need,” Zelensky said in his evening video address on Monday. These included F-16 fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft systems and long-range weapons. “In order to cover our entire national territory, we need more systems than we currently have,” said Zelensky.

Ukraine is hoping, among other things, for Taurus cruise missiles from Germany. So far, however, there has been no commitment from Berlin. In addition, it is important for his country to increasingly produce weapons and anti-aircraft defenses itself, said Zelensky.

Earlier in the day, the head of state announced that the first Abrams tanks had arrived in Ukraine. In total, the United States has announced the handover of 31 battle tanks to the country attacked by Russia. The tanks are a “significant reinforcement” for Ukraine, said Zelensky.
