Typically German: How our author forgot how to read – Munich

It was as much a part of my life as brushing my teeth every day: every day after school – and later after work – I looked for a quiet place to read a book. Instead of eating something or having a cup of tea, I went to the library with the school siren. During breaks at work, I immersed myself in books. When I was younger, I was considered cerebral, but the older I got, the more I noticed how much my friends respected that – and sometimes imitated it. Others were now reading too; we even had book clubs where we met and talked about the books we read.
