Two women attack the president during an official event

The ministerial chief of staff, Alberto Otarola, condemned an “extremely serious” attack which “endangered the integrity of the head of state” on the social network X.

The president was returning to Ayacucho for the first time since protests against her across the country left around 50 people dead, around 20 of whom were believed to have been killed by state forces, according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. (IACHR).
