Two teenagers who filmed themselves killing kittens found guilty

They had killed two kittens and broadcast the scene on Snapchat. Two teenagers were found guilty on Wednesday by the Évreux children’s court, we learned from the Normandy city’s public prosecutor’s office. “The two minors were found guilty (…) of serious abuse leading to the death of animals for one, complicity in this offense for the other. The decision on the sentence is postponed to a second hearing which will take place in May 2024,” indicated Évreux public prosecutor Rémi Coutin.

“While waiting for this second hearing, the two minors will be subject to a probative judicial educational measure”, a sort of judicial control for minors, specified the magistrate. Until now unknown to the justice system, they are aged 14 and 15.

Associations compensated

The Stéphane Lamart association for the defense of animal rights alerted the prosecution on May 11 after the broadcast on the social network Snapchat of a video in which two teenagers “filmed themselves killing kittens”. Seized by the prosecution, the gendarmerie investigated and arrested the two teenagers.

Me Patrice Grillon, lawyer for the Stéphane Lamart foundation and the National Society for the Defense of Animals (SNDA) said on Wednesday “very satisfied with this judgment”, particularly because “the facts have been reclassified as serious abuse leading to the death “. “The two young people were ordered to pay 4,000 euros to each of the two associations that I represent,” added the lawyer.
