Two children aged 6 and 9 died in a building fire in Onet-le-Château, on the outskirts of Rodez. Both were found in cardiorespiratory arrest by the emergency services.
A short distance from Rodez, the town of Onet-le-Chateau (Aveyron) finds itself in mourning this Saturday, November 26. Two young children died in a fire this Saturday morning. The building in which they lived caught fire in the early morning. Despite the intervention of the emergency services, the two young victims could not be saved. The Midi Dispatch take stock of what happened.
What happened ?
According to our colleagues from Aveyron Press Center, the fire broke out at 9:30 a.m. in a building located in Onet-le-Chateau, on the outskirts of Rodez. The fire started on the first floor of this building, in which resided two children aged 6 and 9. The two victims were found in the apartment, in “cardiorespiratory arrest”. The children were taken care of by a team from the Smur of the Jacques-Puel hospital in Rodez. They could not be revived.

“The local police are right next to the apartment that caught fire. They tried to intervene immediately, but the fire was already very violent, explains Jean-Philippe Keroslian, the mayor of Onet-le “Chateau. They couldn’t do anything. Everyone is obviously very shocked.”
How will the investigation unfold?
At the end of the morning this Saturday, the public prosecutor of Aveyron, Nicolas Rigot-Muller, announced that justice had opened an investigation in order to shed light on the circumstances of this tragedy. It will be for the investigation services to find out how this building caught fire: “It is still much too early to know what happened”, also commented the mayor of Onet-le- Castle.
According to the first elements of the investigation, an apartment had already caught fire in the same street, in the heart of the Costes-Rouges district, last April. Twenty firefighters from the rescue centers of Rodez and Baraqueville had been mobilized. The accommodation, with an area of 80m2, had been “totally set on fire”.
Residents relocated?
According to the mayor of Onet-le-Château, the father of the two children who died this Saturday is “collapsed”: “He was taken care of by a psychologist, continues the elected official. He will obviously be relocated like the other inhabitants of the building who were evacuated and whose dwellings were rendered uninhabitable by the significant release of smoke.”
Jean-Philippe Keroslian continues: “I have already warned the director of the school in which the deceased children were educated, and the National Education services, that they can take care of those who could be shocked by this tragedy. .”
