Natural materials take center stage
This is one of the key trends in the bathroom in 2024: this year, the interior is definitely all about being eco-responsible. If we take care to control our energy consumption, we also favor furniture produced in a reasoned manner and in sustainable and/or recycled materials.
This year again, wood leads the way. Without surprise ? Not quite ! Because if we liked it raw for several seasons, we now appreciate it in a more refined version. The year is also marked by a great return of marquetry, which we adopt both for furniture and on the walls, via panels or, more simply, by adopting panoramic wallpaper.
The decorative year 2024 is marked by the return of noble materials in our interiors. Among them: leather (re)emerges. It is found in particular in furniture pieces, in association with wood.
Another unexpected material promises to be talked about this year: linoleum. Originally, linoleum is made up of burlap, wood and cork flour, linseed oil and natural pigments. It is therefore a smart choice for an eco-responsible interior. And although it always adorns our floors, it also appears on the furniture side. It is found in particular in the design of tables and desks, but also small parts such as the end of the sofa.
We’ve seen it happen for several seasons: cork will also be one of the trendy materials of the year. And if we like it as a total look, we will also find it in small touches – for example to enhance the handles of a sideboard.
This year, wood is also combined with stone. We love bush hammered stone, travertine and even colored marble.
Natural fibers such as jute or raffia remain relevant in 2024. However, they face strong competition from paper – which we prefer recycled, obviously. It is found in lighting and wall decoration, as well as as an alternative to classic ceramics for designing vases.
The paper rope is suitable for the living room or the dining room, to dress the seat of the chairs or the lounge armchair.
Rawer textiles
Essential elements for creating a chill atmosphere at home, textiles promise to occupy a central place in our interiors this year.
Boucle wool gradually gives way to more organic, shorter and rawer wool, as well as linen.
A real must-have in 2024, linen is a key material for bed linen and curtains, with a predilection for natural shades. It is on par with another great natural material: hemp.
If we like raw textiles, this year we’ll fall for neat finishes, for example by opting for a two-tone piece.
Already relevant in 2023, tufted cushions and rugs are more trendy than ever. That’s good: in 2024, decor is not always taken seriously! We therefore take advantage of this to adopt cheerful, even offbeat, colors and patterns.
A retro touch
In 2024, decoration is readily regressive, and we continue to favor the retro look. Although the Seventies look has not said its last word, we are taking more and more inspiration from the early 80s. And this is reflected in the choice of materials!
Driven by the craze for the 80s, terrazzo remains one of the major 2024 interior tiling trends. To adopt it, we also rely on trompe-l’oeil wallpaper. This essential is particularly stunning in the kitchen or in the bathroom, but it also fits easily into the bedroom or living room.
A flagship material of the 1980s, chrome steel is coming back to the forefront. We will of course find it in the trendy 2024 dining room, but it can also be found in small touches (or more if you like!) in the bedroom or living room.
We play with textures
We will have understood: materials play an essential role in decoration in 2024! This is reflected in particular by a pronounced taste for textured materials.
On the walls, the color and wallpaper remain in place. However, you will have to take into account a coating that should quickly become essential: lime.
Interior tiling frees itself from its limits – far from being confined to bathrooms, it is now used throughout the house. This is the opportunity to create a refined decor, playing with effects and finishes.
From furniture to decorative accessories, we like to favor two-material pieces, for example combining wood and chrome steel or marble and metal. The alternative is pieces made of a single material, but in different colors – a trend that we find particularly in the kitchen.
