The game of intrigue is entering its second round

The trailer for the second season of “House of the Dragon” is here and it does everything the showrunner promised six months ago.
“No war is so hated by the gods as that against one’s own blood. And none is bloodier than a war between dragons.” Sky Germany has The first trailer for the second season of the highly acclaimed “Game of Thrones” spin-off “House of the Dragon” has been released. The clip, which is around 75 seconds long, leaves no doubt that the new episodes will be as epochal as they are brutal for all the characters involved.
This is where season one left us (spoiler alert!)
As a reminder, season one ended with King Viserys (Paddy Considine, 50) taking his last breath after decades of illness. However, with him also died the only person who did everything in his power to oppose a war within the Targaryen house. When one of Princess Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy, 31) sons died shortly afterwards at the hands of Aemond Targaryen’s (Ewan Mitchell, 26) dragon, the war with her stepmother and former friend Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke, 29) was over ) sealed.
It is precisely at this dark moment in the history of Westeros and the surrounding area that the second season of “House of the Dragon” begins. “A war is imminent – with many deaths,” says Alicent in the clip. “And the winner takes the throne at the end.” The trailer shows how the two warring parties prepare for the inevitable – but at the same time also seem to struggle with the course of events. There is also no shortage of the titular dragons, which cause fear and terror in the armies of the opposing side.
Showrunner fuels anticipation
Showrunner Ryan Condal had already prepared fans for this in March of this year. At a screening event in Los Angeles, he promised that the second season of “House of the Dragon” would significantly increase the number of dragons. “You’re going to meet five new dragons,” Condal said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The second season of the “Game of Thrones” spin-off will air in early summer 2024. HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed this at an HBO event in New York in early November, as “Deadline” reported. It will therefore consist of eight episodes.
