Due to severe storms at night, there are hardly any S-Bahn trains in the Munich area. The traffic was largely stopped, the railway said early Wednesday morning. There was only shuttle traffic on the main route – but this was severely restricted, said a spokeswoman for the railway. Trains also continue on the S1 line in the direction of Freising and in the direction of the airport.
The reason given by the railway is “weather-related impairments in the entire area of the Munich S-Bahn”. How long this will last is not yet foreseeable, said the railway spokeswoman at half past five in the morning. That was the result of a crisis conference call held shortly before by the Munich Bahn Operations Center.
According to the railways, there is a replacement bus service on some of the routes that are now closed. On the following lines and sections (as of around 5:30 a.m.):
- S 2 Ostbahnhof – Erding, S 2 Laim – Petershausen/Altomünster
- S 3 Ostbahnhof – Holzkirchen, S 3 Pasing – Mammendorf
- S 4 Pasing – Geltendorf
- S 6 Ostbahnhof – Ebersberg, S 6 Pasing – Tutzing
- S 7 Ostbahnhof – Kreuzstraße, S 7 Donnersbergerbrücke – Wolfratshausen
- S 8 Ostbahnhof – Airport, S 8 Pasing – Herrsching.

Failures also in rail traffic around Munich
There are also major problems with the train in southern Bavaria beyond the Munich area: no trains have been running from Munich towards the Allgäu and vice versa since the night, the tracks between Memmingen and Buchloe and between Memmingen and Kempten are also closed there, as the train reports . In Lindau, the train station on the island is not approached. There are currently no trains going from Munich in the direction of Garmisch-Partenkirchen either, as the route to Tutzing is closed – as is the route between Weilheim and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There were initially no reports of further damage or even injuries after the storms in Bavaria. “I don’t even know of a slightly injured person,” said a spokesman for the Regensburg police.
Nevertheless, according to the police, emergency services deployed more than 200 times in the Rosenheim and Ingolstadt districts. There, the emergencies were largely limited to uprooted trees and torn branches.
