Others are favorites. In the first individual race of the World Cup, Franziska Preuß has to overcome her opening debacle. Four ski hunters are hoping for a good sprint.

Hopes after her faux pas in the mixed relay Franziska Preuß made amends in the first individual race at the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto.

The best German ski hunter of the World Cup winter so far will be running in the sprint on Friday (5.20 p.m./ARD and Eurosport), as the German Ski Association announced. Vanessa Voigt, Janina Hettich-Walz and Sophia Schneider complete the DSV quartet over the 7.5 kilometers.

At the start of the World Cup, Preuß gave up a possible medal in the mixed relay (5th place) with a penalty loop. As the last runner, Voigt shot clean twice, but was not competitive on the course.

Preuß had come second three times so far this winter, including in the Oberhof sprint. Hettich-Walz made it into the top 6 twice in the shortest biathlon race, Voigt came fifth at the start, but after that there were no longer enough strong results. Schneider has also not been able to convince in the sprint so far.

Denise Herrmann-Wick, who has since retired, won gold in the sprint at the home World Championships last year.
