Tired of calls from unknown numbers? Google is working on a feature to identify who is trying to contact you

Who has never typed a telephone number into Google to find out who is behind the 06 or 01 trying to contact us? This practice should soon be simplified. According to content creator AssembleDebug, which finds features being tested in the most popular apps, Google is currently working on a button “Lookup” (Search), which will allow you to launch a search directly from the received call log to help identify unknown numbers.

This new feature should be revealed in June during Google’s Pixel Feature Drop, the event that unveils new features in the Android ecosystem. Already existing in Japan, on Google Pixel smartphones, this service appeared in the latest beta version of the Google Phone application.

With this new button, distinguishing between a malicious call and that of your bank, your insurer, or your delivery person could go much faster.

Only numbers listed

But to identify the originator of a call, their number must be listed on the Internet, for example in a reverse directory. This is rarely the case for individuals. But companies and their service providers (parcel or meal deliverers, taxi central, etc.) are generally present there.

Note that since January 2023, telephone canvassing has been more regulated and these organizations can only use landline telephone numbers starting with 0162, 0163, 0270, 0271, 0377, 0424, 0425, 0568, 0569, 0948 or 0949. Thanks to the future Google button, identifying these sellers will be simpler.
