Three arrests after electricity and gas cuts claimed by the CGT

They were arrested “in flagrante delicto”, reports a police source. Three men, employees of GRDF and Enedis, were placed in police custody on Tuesday in Cannes for having interrupted the supply of gas and electricity to a part of the city which hosts the international film festival.

These cuts occurred while a demonstration against the pension reform was taking place at the station, on the initiative of the CGT Energie. The union “claims them”, confirmed to 20 minutes Céline Petit, Deputy General Secretary in the Alpes-Maritimes. In particular, they deprived the city police station of power. Many restaurants, especially on the beaches, also had to operate without gas at noon. At the beginning of the afternoon, some establishments were still not supplied.

A failed attempt in the morning

Céline Petit also specified in the afternoon to 20 minutes that the three people placed in police custody in the morning had been “released”, a priori without prosecution. Earlier in the morning, the management of Enedis had thwarted a first attempt to cut power at the La Bocca power station, west of the city, which supplies a large part of the town.

At the end of April, the CGT Energie had threatened to cause “energy disturbances”
especially at the time of the Cannes Film Festival. No blackouts have occurred within the palace grounds since the event kicked off last Tuesday.
