The AfD has canceled a campaign event with its European election top candidate Maximilian Krah in Weidenberg (Bayreuth district). The planned counter-demo will now also not take place, the German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB) Upper Franconia announced on Friday.
There are allegations of espionage against one of Krah’s employees. The party leadership recently declared that it wanted to stick with Krah as the top candidate for the European election campaign. According to information from the AfD federal office, all of Krah’s planned election campaign appearances have been canceled until May 1st. On this day, as Krah himself confirmed, a performance is planned in his hometown of Dresden.
According to the information, it is still unclear what happens next. The AfD Bayreuth district association wrote on the Facebook platform that it was not possible to organize “adequate replacements” at short notice.
A broad alliance around the DGB had originally called for a counter-event under the motto “For a Europe of solidarity”. The DGB announcement continued that the event was now being canceled out of consideration for the residents.
