Are thirty years enough to heal from genocide? Haunted by this question, the writer Isabelle Darras went to Rwanda in 2023, to meet those who experienced the Tutsi genocide as children. From these interviews, she woven a book, After the April rain, ed. Bayard, released on March 13, 2024. Because the author, who already has two works on Rwanda under her belt, has never managed to forget this genocide.
In 1994, as a young journalist, she went to a Rwandan refugee camp in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo. The “blue canvases of Goma” and “death, distress, destitution, illness and extreme violence” have never faded from his memory. Thirty years later, Isabelle Darras speaks on the microphone of 20 minutes the trauma of these children but also their journey towards the light.
