The effects of climate change
Such temperature levels would be “much less likely” without “the climate change observed on a global scale and in Spain”, insists Aemet. Accustomed to high temperatures, Spain has been facing increasingly numerous and frequent heat episodes for several years, sometimes outside the summer months, which worry scientists.
According to Aemet, the frequency of heat episodes has tripled over the past ten years in the country, on the front line of global warming. The duration of meteorological summer has increased by ten days per decade since the 1980s.
