The staff of the psychiatric infirmary of the police headquarters is on strike

A banner was hung just next to the entrance, where twenty strikers gathered. “I3P on strike, degraded service. Some of the staff of the psychiatric infirmary of the Paris police headquarters (I3P) stopped work on Tuesday morning to denounce a lack of staff which no longer allows, they say, to guarantee their safety. “We have taken stock with the administration, there is a lack of 5 supervisors and 5 nurses to ensure the operation of the service”, explains to 20 minutes Frédéric Guillo, from the CGT Préfecture de police.

Located rue Cabanis, in the 14th arrondissement of the capital, the I3P welcomes people “supported by the police, whose mental disorders may present a danger to themselves or to others, with a view to their orientation”. , indicates the decree of 2007 which defines its missions. A man suspected of having cut his mother’s throat, another who entered the Mexican embassy and urinated on the police, a woman who threw flour at a former President of the Republic… The profiles of these people , brought handcuffed by the police, is very varied.

Concerns for the future of the service

Following their assessment by a psychiatrist, these people are either handed over to the police or transferred to a psychiatric hospital. Frédéric Guillo points out that it takes “six people to control a patient in crisis”. In order to make this service more “attractive”, it is necessary, he says, that nursing staff and supervisors can benefit retroactively from the measures of the Ségur de la santé, namely an improvement in wages and working conditions promised to hospital staff in July 2020. The CGT PP also requests the payment of overtime “in the context of replacements between teams”, and “the statutory recognition of the missions of supervisors”.

Finally, the strikers are worried about the future of this health service, which has been in operation since 1872 and is hierarchically dependent on the Prefecture of Police. What was denounced by the general controller of places of deprivation of liberty in a report in 2019. “There are plans [de réforme], that worries us. But we agree to change and if necessary, we are ready for dialogue, ”says one of the people present on Tuesday morning. “All the agents must be able to be involved in thinking about the future of the I3P”, adds Gérard Delahaye, also from the CGT PP.
