The modernization of the Roland-Garros site continues. This Thursday, the French Tennis Federation (FFT) announced that the metal frame of the roof of the Suzanne-Lenglen court was installed on time and successfully. This is the first stage of the huge project aimed at covering a second stadium on the grounds of the French Grand Slam tournament, after the central court Philippe-Chatrier.
Launched in 2021, this project will continue until March 2023 “with the installation of the storage box for the cover”, specifies the Federation. The last phase of the project will begin after the 2023 edition of the tournament, with the installation of the canvas constituting the mobile cover. The goal is for the Suzanne-Lenglen court to be operational for the 2024 Roland-Garros tournament and the Paris Olympics.
With a capacity of 10,056 seats, the Suzanne-Lenglen court is the second largest stadium on the Roland-Garros site, after the Central (15,225 seats). During the Olympic Games in the summer of 2024, it will host, in addition to tennis, boxing events.
