The return of heating in schools, end of the strike

The heating engineers’ strike, which began on November 2 in Lyon to demand an increase in wages and staff, ended on Tuesday after the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the city, the municipality announced. “The heating should therefore be restored in municipal establishments”, highlighted the town hall in a press release.

The heating engineers’ strike, led by the CGT, had delayed the commissioning of heating in the city’s buildings, particularly in primary schools and nurseries in the city, prompting the city of Lyon to requisition agents to restore the heating on November 8.

No salary increase

After a meeting on Monday bringing together Laurent Bosetti, deputy mayor of Lyon for the promotion of public services, and representatives of the agents of the technical management of buildings, “a constructive exchange” made it possible “to lead to a protocol of agreement,” signed on Tuesday, the municipality said.

The heating engineers and electricians asked for a salary increase of 200 euros in order to enhance their diplomas, while the salary difference is 30% with the private sector, as well as full staff.

“They did not obtain satisfaction from a salary point of view”, but “we hope that we will find other solutions to improve their working conditions”, during meetings with the town hall which will be organized once per week from Friday, confided the secretary general CGT city of Lyon Sébastien Douillet.
