Nils Petersen on Christian Streich: “Could help every team”

On Saturday, Christian Streich will be on the sidelines for SC Freiburg for the last time. In the interview, his ex-professional Nils Petersen talks about training sessions at the limit, how the trainer can read people – and why he still doesn’t use his first name to this day.

Mr. Petersen, you played for SC Freiburg for eight and a half years under a single coach: Christian Streich. How did you experience this time?
Eight and a half years of prank, that’s like ten or twelve years at another club. It was demanding, it was tiring, but also very exhilarating. We pushed ourselves to the limit, every day. Even after victories, when you as a player think: Now you’re going to have a relaxed training session because you deserve it. But then Christian Streich came into the dressing room and shouted: Guys, it doesn’t work that way, we’re going to be relegated! And then we had to give it full throttle again.
