Three people were indicted in this sordid affair, one of whom, suspected of being the perpetrator of the rape, was placed in detention. “I believe in justice and let the investigators do their work,” insisted the mother of the victim, who would have been 14 years old on Friday.
Shanon died on March 27 after spending nearly three weeks in a coma in Amiens hospital. According to the first elements of the investigation, the events took place at the home of one of her friends, in Rantigny, in Oise, where she was spending the evening. Two young men, aged 18 and 19, arrived in circumstances that remain to be defined. The victim was found in a pool of blood. She was in cardiac arrest when help arrived. “A medico-legal autopsy will precisely determine the causes of death,” the prosecutor said in a brief press release on Friday.
“Me, my family, my loved ones as well as everyone who knows Shanon, we are in a state of shock… Since March 6, we have been living in horror,” her mother whispers to the local daily. Three people were indicted on March 19 as part of an investigation opened the same day for “rape committed on a minor aged 15 by an adult with an age difference of at least 5 years”.
In addition to the man suspected of being the direct perpetrator of the acts, two people “suspected of voluntary abstention from preventing a crime, were left free”, one, an adult, placed under judicial supervision, and the other , minor, under provisional judicial educational measure, adds the prosecutor. None has a criminal record.
