The mayor of Barcarès in prison for violations of his judicial control

Indicted for extortion in an organized gang, the mayor of Barcarès (Pyrénées-Orientales) and vice-president of the agglomeration of Perpignan, Alain Ferrand (various right), was placed in pre-trial detention on Friday at Baumettes in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), after the revocation of its judicial review.

The elected official was arrested on Tuesday in the seaside resort he runs, “for [des] multiple and repeated violations of his judicial control ”, and imprisoned in the prison of Perpignan, had specified to AFP Dominique Laurens, the prosecutor of Marseilles. Organized extortion, concussion and complicity in the destruction of evidence

Figure of the right in the Pyrénées-Orientales, Alain Ferrand had been indicted in May 2021 for extortion in an organized gang, misappropriation and complicity in the destruction of evidence, committed over the period 2015-2020. He had been placed under judicial supervision, accompanied by the payment of a deposit and a ban on going to the Pyrénées-Orientales. This last measure was then relaxed, allowing him to go on certain days to his department, to his town and to Perpignan.

After the first election of Alain Ferrand in 1995, the mayor and his ex-companion succeeded each other at the head of the commune, according to the ineligibility of one and the other. In 1999, the elected official was sentenced to three years of ineligibility for misuse of corporate assets. He was also subsequently convicted of illegal taking of interest and tax evasion. During the municipal elections in 2020, he was re-elected hands down, in the first round.
