The editorial staff renews its strike against the appointment of Geoffroy Lejeune

Again this Wednesday, journalists from the JDD renewed their strike against the appointment as head of the newspaper of Geoffroy Lejeune, former editor Current Values. The renewal for 24 hours of the movement was voted by 98% (93 for, 2 against and 7 who do not decide), according to a press release from the Society of Journalists (SDJ) of the Sunday newspaper.

The editorial staff of the weekly also met on Wednesday morning near the National Assembly, where a cross-partisan bill aimed at protecting the editorial freedom of the media seeking state aid was presented at 11 a.m.

The demands of the editorial staff remain the same: it calls on its management to “give up the appointment of Geoffroy Lejeune” and to offer journalists “guarantees of legal and editorial independence”. This strike has, to date, prevented the publication of four issues.

Protecting the independence of journalists

The text, carried by deputies from eight parliamentary groups (excluding RN and LR) on the initiative of the ecologist deputy Sophie Taillé-Polian, “aims to condition direct and indirect press aid on the establishment of a right of approval of journalists on the appointment of their managing editor”.

The previous week, PS senator David Assouline had also tabled a bill, supported by the socialist group, aimed at guaranteeing “the independence of editorial staff”, while the Elysée formalized the launch of the States General of the information in September.

THE JDDfounded in 1948, must pass in October at the latest under the control of Vivendi, the group of billionaire Vincent Bolloré, after a successful takeover bid on Lagardère, owner of the title.
