The three occupants of the car, all three of Armenian nationality, were arrested and placed in police custody, immediately after the accident which occurred in Pamiers (Ariège) at a farmers’ roadblock on Tuesday at dawn… And This Wednesday the driver of the car was indicted and taken into custody. “At the end of his first appearance interrogation […]he was indicted on charges of aggravated manslaughter, aggravated injury and driving without insurance,” the Foix prosecutor said in a statement.
No charges were brought against the two passengers of the vehicle following their custody. As they were subject to an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF), they were placed in an administrative detention center, according to the same source.
On Tuesday the motorist accidentally hit a roadblock manned by farmers in Ariège, killing a breeder and her daughter. In addition to the farmer and her 12-year-old daughter, the father was seriously injured in the accident. He is still hospitalized in serious condition.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Foix prosecutor indicated that “the driver (had) admitted to having circumvented the special safety device which blocked access to national road 20” and “not having realized in time the presence of the black tarpaulin which covered the straw wall”, which marked the start of the blockade where a few dozen demonstrators were gathered.
