Gino Mader crashed at high speed during the final descent of stage 5 on Thursday. He was first able to be resuscitated on the spot by the medical staff who performed cardiac massage, before being airlifted to a hospital. But the young 26-year-old runner did not survive his injuries and his death was declared late Friday morning. “Today and every day we run for you, Gino,” his team concluded.
