The 26-year-old man, suspected of planning violent action against the Olympic flame, was indicted, the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office said. Without a criminal record, the individual, Alex G., was identified thanks to a disturbing message linked to the mass killing perpetrated in California in May 2014. During his interrogation, he admitted to having considered a violent act, although no direct reference to the Olympic flame was mentioned.
Alex G. has also shown a particular interest in the “Incel” movement (contraction of “Involuntary celibate”). During a search of his home, investigators seized a Gomm-cogne revolver, several telephones and a computer. According to his relatives, he is psychologically fragile, but “an expert psychiatrist did not detect any specific disorder”, indicated the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office.
One dead and one injured in absolute emergency. Lightning struck the Courrières football stadium, near Lens, on Thursday evening while training was in progress. The deceased man is a coach of the amateur club AS Courrières, aged around thirty. Another man “suffering from chest pain was transported to the hospital center in a state of absolute emergency” and a third was slightly injured, burned on the leg, details the prefecture in a press release.
