Tesla is recalling tens of thousands of vehicles over safety concerns

Apparently, Tesla cars do not come to a complete stop at intersections and instead continue to drive slowly despite the driver assistant. The US traffic safety authority NHTSA does not exclude a danger. Tesla therefore has to recall tens of thousands of vehicles in the USA.
Faulty software functions repeatedly prompt Tesla to recall vehicles. Now the electric car manufacturer has to recall almost 54,000 vehicles in the USA. The entire range of vehicles is affected, the Model S, X, 3 and Y, which have a beta version of the “Full Self-Driving” driver assistance software.
According to the US traffic safety agency NHTSA, the “Rolling Stop” function allows the car under certain conditions to drive through intersections with stop signs at a maximum speed of 5.6 miles per hour (around 9 km/h) without completely failing to stop This could increase the risk of a collision.
According to the authority, Tesla itself is not aware of any accidents or other incidents in this context, but the US carmaker is voluntarily recalling the affected vehicles in order to adapt the program. No further action is required beyond disabling the software, NHTSA said.
Tesla has recently had more recalls
There have been a number of Tesla car recalls lately. At the end of the year, Tesla had recalled a total of almost 700,000 vehicles in the USA and China because of potentially safety-threatening defects. 365,000 Model 3 vehicles built between 2017 and 2020 were affected. Opening and closing the trunk could damage the reversing camera wiring harness. This in turn could lead to camera failure.
In addition, 119,000 Model S vehicles from 2014 to 2021 had been recalled. There is a risk of the hood opening unexpectedly if a locking mechanism is released. This could “obscure the driver’s view and increase the risk of an accident”.
In China, there had been a recall involving almost 20,000 imported Model S cars and over 35,000 imported Model 3 cars. There are also around 144,000 Model 3s produced in China. The reason for the recall was the same safety risks as in the USA.
Tesla previously recalled almost 12,000 Model S, X and 3 vehicles built between 2017 and 2021 due to a braking error. Model Y vehicles built between 2020 and 2021 were also affected. In certain situations, a faulty update could result in the autopilot issuing incorrect warnings of a possible frontal collision and therefore initiating a braking manoeuvre.
