A superstar, Luke Combs, led the nominations for the Academy of Country Music Awards, but in the end there were only two trophies. Lainey Wilson and Chris Stapleton won the most prizes.

US country singer Lainey Wilson has been awarded the top prize at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM). The 31-year-old accepted the “Entertainer of the Year” award on Friday night in Frisco (US state of Texas). It was her first win in this division.

She also won the award for Artist of the Year and Music Event of the Year, together with Jelly Roll (39) with the song “Save Me”. The Awards from the US Academy of Country Music were presented for the 59th time.

Country veteran Chris Stapleton (46), who entered the race with five nominations, won four awards, including artist of the year and album of the year (“Higher”). Luke Combs (34), who was the evening’s favorite with eight chances to win, had to settle for two prizes in the end. His hit “Fast Car” earned him trophies in the Single of the Year category as a singer and as a producer.

Further awards went to Old Dominion as best group, to the duo Dan + Shay, to Megan Moroney (26) as best new artist and to Nate Smith (38) as best young male.

Country legend Reba McEntire (69) was on stage as host. Numerous country and pop stars appeared on the show, including Lainey Wilson, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Chris Stapleton, Dua Lipa and Avril Lavigne.
