“I think I’m someone who can say something like that. I’ve never used a toilet break to my advantage in my life. I’ve never taken an unnecessary medical break,” said the 25-year-old at the Munich tennis tournament. Of course he also hacks up a racket, “but I win and lose with tennis,” said the native of Hamburg.
After his knockout round in Monte Carlo against Medvedev, Zverev described the Russian as “one of the most unfair players in the world”. Among other things, Medvedev took a toilet break, which is allowed in tennis, or removed the net post when going to his bench and put it on the court. He wasn’t warned for it. The Russian later countered: “Sascha lives in his own world and when he loses you find 25 interviews in which he says strange things. If he says that someone is playing unfairly, he should take a look in the mirror.”
Three days after the incident, Zverev appealed to tennis fans to form their own opinion. The German is open to a possible discussion with the fifth in the world rankings. “If he wants to talk to me, he’s very welcome to talk to me.”
