The 28-year-old won 6:4, 6:3 against Lys, who was seven years younger, in 1:22 hours. Korpatsch now has the chance for the greatest success of her career so far on Sunday and will meet Romanian Elena Ruse. “In the end it was so close. The spectators wanted to see a third set, but I didn’t. I’m glad I finished it,” said Korpatsch, emphasizing the special nature of the semi-final for the Hamburg teammates. “We’ve known each other for so many years, since she was born or something. We’re from the same club. At first it was strange because we’d never met before except in training.”

Lys was able to hold on for a long time in the opening set of her first WTA semi-final. She had already defeated the top-seeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea during the tournament, but was unable to build on these performances and missed her first final at the WTA tour. After winning the first round in just over 40 minutes, Korpatsch was already 5-1 ahead in the second set, but still had to tremble for a moment.
