Richard Williams speaks out after Will Smith’s Oscar freak. Smith had referred to the tennis dad in his speech.
Richard Williams (80) condemns Will Smith (53) slapping Chris Rock (57) at the Oscars. “We don’t know all the details of what happened,” Williams told LeSane about his son Chavoita Align “NBC News”. “But we do not condone anyone hitting another person unless it is in self-defense.”
Unlike his daughters, tennis stars Venus (41) and Serena Williams (40), Richard Williams was not present at the Oscars. According to LaSene, the former coach watched the show on TV. He was shocked by Will Smith’s attack on comedian Chris Rock.
Will Smith, who embodies the tennis father in “King Richard”, had hit Chris Rock on the open stage because of a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s (50) bald head – caused by illness.
Will Smith referred to Richard Williams as a ‘defender of his family’
Particularly spicy for Richard Williams: When Will Smith accepted the leading actor Oscar for “King Richard” later in the evening, he was referring to the 80-year-old. And used it indirectly to justify his behavior. Smith called Richard Williams a “fervent defender of his family”.
Will Smith has since publicly apologized to Chris Rock. “Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive”, wrote the US star on Instagram. “My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable.”
