Teenager ‘seriously injured’ after collision with police cruiser

A teenager, accused of refusing to comply, was transported, “seriously injured”, to hospital after a collision early Wednesday evening with a police vehicle in Elancourt (Yvelines), and two police officers were placed in police custody, the Versailles prosecutor’s office told AFP.

Several police sources told AFP that the 16-year-old victim was riding a scooter and had refused to comply.

Two open investigations

Asked by AFP, the Versailles prosecutor’s office indicated that two investigations had been opened: one for “refusal to comply”, entrusted to the territorial security of Yvelines, the other for “involuntary injuries by driver”, entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN).

“A scooter that refused to comply (was) followed at a distance by a police vehicle” and collided at an intersection with “another police vehicle”, according to the version of a first police source. The facts took place around 6:40 p.m., according to a second police source.

Two police officers in custody

“The 16-year-old young man, for a time in respiratory cardiac arrest, (was) resuscitated by the emergency services and directed to the hospital”, further affirmed the first police source.

The prosecution clarified that the two police officers driving the vehicles involved were placed in police custody as part of the investigation entrusted to the police. Ongoing investigations “will determine the circumstances” of this collision, concluded the prosecution.
