Taufkirchen: rocket tanks made of carbon – district of Munich

In an old aircraft hangar on the Ludwig-Bölkow-Campus in Taufkirchen, next to flight simulators, engines and computers, there is also a basketball hoop. If nothing goes on, a few tosses should stimulate the flow of ideas from Tobias Dickhut, professor at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Neubiberg, and his colleagues. Because while amateur fireworkers are again not allowed to shoot rockets into the sky on New Year’s Eve, Dickut deals with them professionally all year round – but with the really big ones. Within four years, he and his team at the Bundeswehr University want to develop rocket tanks made of carbon as part of the Chill project. They work together with the mechanical engineering company Blackwave, which is right next door. Later, the parts are to be passed on to rocket builders in order to launch satellites into space.
