A young violinist believes she killed her friend and competitor. Or was she just dreaming about it? At first there is no corpse. But the investigators come across a dubious sleep laboratory.

  • A very interesting “crime scene”, which, however, wants too much and thus ultimately achieves too little.

What’s the matter?

A young woman comes to the Munich homicide squad and accuses herself of murder. It is about the young violinist Marina Eeden (Jara Bihler). She fears that she killed her friend and competitor Lucy on the roof of the Philharmonie in Gasteig. In fact, the commissioners Franz Leitmayr (Udo Wachtveitl) and Ivo Batic (Miroslav Nemec) found traces of blood there. However, there is no corpse. In addition, the young woman is not sure whether she only dreamed the murder. She is a lucid dreamer, but cannot always distinguish dreamed from real memories. The investigators believe to find the key to the case in a dubious sleep laboratory, in which musicians and athletes optimize their performance.

Why is this “crime scene” worthwhile?

The young Swiss woman Jara Bihler is a real discovery. Your portrayal of the aspiring violinist, who does almost anything for success, is convincing. The setting is also well chosen: detective stories that take place in a musician environment are rare. There is often a lot of pressure there: the stress level of an orchestral musician is just as high as that of a Fomrel 1 pilot, reports the tireless assistant Kalli Hammermann (Ferdinand Hofer). Anyone who has seen “Dreams” will immediately believe it.

What bothers?

If the makers of this episode (book: Moritz Binder and Johanna Thalmann; director: Boris Kunz) had limited themselves to the music scene, it could have been a big “crime scene”. But they mix this exciting subject with a topic related to sleep research, medication and self-optimization. All topics that, due to their complexity, can only be touched upon and remain incomprehensible. There is also a parallel plot with a top athlete who is under similar pressure.

The commissioners?

The investigations in the sleep laboratory remind Commissioner Leitmayr of his current problem: he cannot sleep, becomes irritable and intolerable. His colleague Batic, on the other hand, thinks that all the stuff with the dream interpretation is real. As a child, he dreamed that a classmate would have an accident in the car – which actually happened. Ironically, the overtired Leitmayr can calm him down with a rational explanation.

Switch on or off?

You can confidently give yourself this “crime scene”. If you still feel like a thriller: Arte will repeat a film from the series “Unter Verdacht” with the great Senta Berger on Sunday evening. It also plays in Munich – but it is more worth seeing.
